What You Learn:

  • Self-Rescue & Stress Management: Recognizing your own limits and handling panic before it handles you.
  • Recognizing Stress in Others: Spotting the subtle signs of a diver in distress before they even submerge.
  • Emergency Management & Equipment: Fast, effective coordination of shore and boat-based rescue logistics.
  • Rescuing Panicked & Unresponsive Divers: Correct techniques for surfacing, towing, and safely extracting a diver from the water.
  • In-Water Emergency Care: Administering rescue breathing while swimming and managing oxygen delivery systems.

Prerequisites:

  • Age: Minimum 12 years old. (Divers aged 12–14 earn a Junior Rescue Diver certification, which automatically upgrades to a standard Rescue Diver certification when they turn 15).
  • You must hold a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or a qualifying equivalent from another agency).
  • You can also qualify if you are a PADI Adventure Diver and have specifically completed the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive.
  • You must complete a Diver Medical Form. If you answer "Yes" to any health conditions, a physician's signed approval is required before getting in the water.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification: You must have completed Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care (or an equivalent approved CPR/First Aid course) within the last 24 months.

Note: You can actually take your EFR course side-by-side with your Rescue course, but it must be fully completed before PADI can issue your Rescue card.

It is demanding, incredibly rewarding, and widely considered the most transformative course you will ever take.

The Guardian of the Sea:
The Ultimate Rescue Diver Experience Scuba diving is an extraordinary journey into a world of weightlessness, vibrant marine life, and serene exploration. But as any experienced diver knows, the ocean is a dynamic environment. True mastery isn't just about managing your own buoyancy or admiring the coral, it’s about having the presence of mind, the razor-sharp skills, and the confidence to take control when things don't go to plan.

The Rescue Diver course is widely recognized as the most challenging, rewarding, and transformative program in recreational diving. It is the exact moment you stop being a passive observer and become a proactive leader, shifting your focus from your own gear to the safety and well-being of every diver around you.

Emergency First Response (EFR) Integration

Most Rescue Diver courses are paired with First Aid and CPR training. You will gain hands-on experience with:

  • Primary and Secondary Care: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and bandage application.

  • Emergency Oxygen Provider: Learning how to set up and administer 100% oxygen, which is the primary first-aid treatment for decompression illness.

If you ever want to make a career out of diving, the Rescue Diver certification is the definitive line in the sand. It is the absolute prerequisite for entering the professional ranks as a Divemaster or an Instructor. Even if you stay a recreational diver, it earns you immense respect at any dive center worldwide.
